Overview
Taught out of our Brunswick studio, this is a 2 day workshop that runs 10am-4pm both days, with a 1h lunch break included.
In this workshop you'll come with a laptop, some prints and some files and leave with a 48 page dummy that you have designed, printed and bound yourself.
On day one, we'll start by looking at what an art book is and talking through layout and basic design. You will then move into some editing and sequencing activities. After lunch you will learn some basic InDesign or Xara techniques and by the end of day one you'll have a draft file.
On day two, we'll start with providing feedback and each person will complete their draft and print it in studio. After lunch we will bind the book, trim it and document it. We will be using chain stitch to bind 4 sections and a soft cover.
This workshop is open to anyone with art work ready to go. Whether you're an illustrator, photographer, poet, writer, mixed media artist, etc, you'll be welcomed and catered to. You'll need to have between 30-60 art pieces ready (more is fine too!).
No design, book making or binding experience is necessary.
The workshop is designed for anyone and everyone - all you need is art work (photos, writing, poetry, illustrations, whatever) in digital format, a laptop and either InDesign or Xara programs installed on your laptop.
Unfortunately, we do not have spare laptops to share.
Limited to 8 places, so that there's plenty of one-on-one time.
All paper, printing and binding provided.
